Canadian Forces solider was among the victims of a massive morning suicide attack in the Afghan capital, army officials have confirmed.
“A Canadian Forces member was killed in today’s incident in Kabul,” said Maj. Daryl Morrell, Task Force Kandahar spokesman.
The powerful blast occurred on a major Kabul thoroughfare that runs by the ruins of a one-time royal palace and government ministries. It wrecked nearly 20 vehicles, including five SUVs in the NATO convoy, and scattered debris and body parts across the wide boulevard.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid told The Associated Press in a phone call from an undisclosed location that the bomber was a man from Kabul and his car was packed with 750 kilograms of explosives. The target of the attack was the foreign convoy, he said.

The death of this Canadian soldier brings the total casualty count to 147 people killed since the peace keeping mission started in Afghanistan. It seems as if the death of our Canadian troops is for a lost cause and with no evident progress being made it appears as if it is time for the government to take action and stop the mission before another Canadian life is needlessly wasted. It is now almost routinely that we hear of a Canadian soldier being killed and as a citizen I feel angry at the fact the government seems to be showing total disregard for the lives of our troops. What I can not seem to comprehend is why we feel the need put the lives of our Canadian soldiers in jeprody over an issue that does not have any impact on Canada or its citizens.
ReplyDeleteI agree it seems like our efforts in this, is going to waste. More and more of our soldiers are dieing for a cause which is losing hope. I certainly do agree with the fact that this battle has nothing to do with Canada and her people. I just hope that all these results of crazy warfare is for the best for global peace.
